About ICC

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at Dr. Samuel George Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and the UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2015.

The committee’s primary objective is to provide a safe, secure, and gender-sensitive environment for all women employees and students on campus. The ICC aims to prevent sexual harassment, promote gender equity, and address complaints of harassment in a fair, confidential, and time-bound manner.

Objectives of the ICC

  • To uphold the dignity and rights of women by ensuring a harassment-free, inclusive academic and workplace environment.
  • To sensitize employees and students about gender equity, legal provisions, and institutional support systems.
  • To receive and address complaints of sexual harassment promptly, confidentially, and fairly.
  • To recommend appropriate action against the offender in accordance with institutional and legal guidelines.
  • To organize awareness and capacity-building programs on gender sensitization and workplace ethics.

Definition of Sexual Harassment

As per the Act, sexual harassment includes any one or more of the following unwelcome acts or behavior (whether directly or by implication):

  • Physical contact and advances
  • A demand or request for sexual favors
  • Making sexually colored remarks
  • Showing pornography
  • Any other unwelcome physical, verbal, or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature

Functions of the ICC

  • To investigate complaints related to sexual harassment at the workplace or academic campus.
  • To maintain complete confidentiality during inquiry and grievance redressal procedures.
  • To recommend appropriate action based on inquiry findings to the Principal/Management.
  • To conduct gender sensitization, legal awareness, and anti-sexual harassment programs on campus.
  • To circulate policy guidelines, posters, and awareness material periodically.

 Awareness and Preventive Measures

  • Mandatory orientation sessions on gender sensitization and prevention of sexual harassment for newly admitted students and staff.
  • Display of ICC constitution, helpline numbers, and complaint procedures at prominent locations on campus.
  • Observance of International Women’s Day, legal literacy campaigns, and interactive sessions on workplace ethics and gender equity.

Confidentiality and Protection

The ICC ensures complete confidentiality and dignity of complainants and witnesses throughout the proceedings. The committee guarantees that no woman employee or student will face discrimination or retaliation for filing a complaint or participating in an inquiry process.
