About Women Empowerment Cell
The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) at Dr. Samuel George Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a proactive and dynamic body committed to promoting gender equity, women’s welfare, leadership, and personal development on campus. The Cell aims to empower women students, faculty, and staff by providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and personally.
In alignment with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines and Government of India’s gender sensitization initiatives, the WEC works actively to address issues concerning women’s rights, safety, legal awareness, career growth, and self-confidence. It serves as a platform for women to voice their concerns, share experiences, and participate in programs that nurture their leadership potential and personal well-being.
Objectives of the Women Empowerment Cell
- To create awareness about women’s rights, gender sensitivity, and equality on campus.
- To provide a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all women employees and students.
- To organize seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions on health, self-defense, career development, and legal literacy.
- To motivate women to participate actively in decision-making processes, leadership roles, and academic activities.
- To address grievances related to women’s welfare and personal concerns in coordination with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and other institutional bodies.
- To foster holistic empowerment of women through skill-building, counseling, and mentoring initiatives.
Functions of the WEC
- Conducting regular awareness programs, seminars, and webinars on gender equality, women’s rights, health, hygiene, and legal protections.
- Organizing self-defence training sessions in collaboration with law enforcement and NGOs.
- Providing career counselling, soft skills workshops, and leadership development programs for girl students and women faculty.
- Celebrating International Women’s Day and other occasions significant to women’s empowerment and achievements.
- Acting as a grievance redressal support body for issues concerning women’s welfare, safety, and dignity on campus.
- Maintaining coordination with ICC and other statutory committees for ensuring gender justice and safe campus policies.
Achievements
- Created a positive, gender-inclusive campus environment free from discrimination and harassment.
- Successfully conducted multiple awareness and welfare programs for women students and faculty.
- Established a supportive platform for women to voice concerns and access guidance without fear.
