About OBC Cell
The Other Backward Classes (OBC) Cell at Dr. Samuel George Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been constituted in accordance with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Government of India to safeguard the rights, interests, and welfare of students, faculty, and staff belonging to the OBC category.
The Cell is dedicated to ensuring proper implementation of policies and schemes of the Government of India and regulatory bodies regarding reservations, scholarships, and welfare measures for eligible OBC candidates. It works towards providing an equitable and inclusive academic environment by promoting social justice, equality, and equal opportunities within the institution.
Objectives of the OBC Cell
- To implement and monitor the reservation policies and welfare schemes for OBC students and staff.
- To provide assistance and guidance to OBC students regarding scholarships, fee concessions, and government schemes.
- To address academic, financial, and social concerns faced by OBC students.
- To ensure that no eligible candidate is denied rights and opportunities based on social or economic status.
- To organize awareness and orientation programs on Government welfare policies and educational opportunities for OBC communities.
- To function as a grievance redressal forum for issues related to discrimination, welfare benefits, or policy implementation.
Functions of the OBC Cell
- Collecting and maintaining data of OBC students admitted to various programs every academic year.
- Coordinating with university and government bodies to implement OBC welfare policies and schemes.
- Assisting students in the application process for scholarships, fee concessions, and financial aid.
- Addressing grievances related to academic, admission, hostel, and welfare services.
- Conducting awareness programs, career counseling, and motivational sessions for OBC students.
- Preparing periodic reports on activities and welfare measures undertaken for OBC students.

- Orientation programs for newly admitted OBC students on scholarships and welfare schemes.
- Workshops on career development, competitive exam preparation, and leadership skills.
- Regular awareness drives on reservation policies, government schemes, and student rights.
- Counseling support for academic and social concerns.
Complaint Mechanism
OBC students can submit grievances and welfare-related issues via:
- Written application to the Faculty Coordinator or Chairperson of the Cell
Complaints are addressed confidentially and resolved in a timely manner as per institutional policy.
